An average Reverse Osmosis (RO) System wastes 3 liters of water for every 1 liter that is purified. There are many ways in which we can use this water (as outlined in this article), but the question remains: how do we collect this water? To answer this, read on.

Step 1: Buying a vessel

To start this process, you must buy a water-collecting vessel. This could be a clay pot (matka) or a regular plastic water dispenser. The vessel should have a tap, however, this is not completely necessary, it makes the process more convenient. This tap will be used to drain the unfiltered water out to use for various activities. Find a place for this near your RO System.

Step 2: Connecting the pipe to the vessel

Now that your vessel is ready, take the pipe that is coming out of your RO System through which water flows out. Simply place this in the vessel from the top. You may make a hole in the lid or just place it on the top. That’s it, you’re done!

It’s really that easy. It takes barely any time but it has a great impact. Delhi is going through a water crisis and, personally, this ‘saved’ water has been a boon for the household. It is being used for washing hands, cleaning dishes and mopping when the taps are dry. The water crisis is only going to get worse, so, you must do what you can to save water.
